Board of Directors
Rooted’s board of directors works to advance the mission of the organization by establishing the proper legal governances and financial policies and raising adequate funds and resources for the organization’s activities and programs. The board also provides encouragement and support for staff and the board of advisors, and are committed to faithfully praying for the organization. This group is comprised of pastors, theologians, and secular professionals who have a heart for seeing young people know the Gospel and grow as disciples. Rooted’s board includes:
Katie Agnew a corporate lawyer based in Nashville. She is currently senior counsel for corporate payments for Fleetcor, a leading global business payments company. Prior to her role at Fleetcor, Katie was an associate at Waller, Lansden, Dortch, and Davis, and then served as corporate counsel for eco Interactive and i3 Verticals. Before starting her legal career, Katie was an analyst for Kurt Salmon Associates. Katie earned her BS in Finance and Management from UVA, and her JD from the University of Alabama. She and her husband, Lewis, have three young daughters who keep them on their toes. Katie is an active member of St. George’s Episcopal Church and enjoys being in the great outdoor
Cameron Cole has been the Director of Youth Ministries at the Cathedral Church of the Advent since December of 2005, and in January of 2016 his duties expanded to include Children, Youth, and Families. He is the founding chairman of Rooted Ministry, an organization that promotes gospel-centered youth ministry. He is the co-editor of “Gospel- Centered Youth Ministry: A Practice Guide” (Crossway, 2016) and “The Jesus I Wish I Knew in High School” (New Growth Press, 2021). Cameron is the author of “Therefore, I Have Hope: 12 Truths that Comfort, Sustain, and Redeem in Tragedy” (Crossway, 2018), which won World Magazine’s 2018 Book of the Year (Accessible Theology) and was runner up for The Gospel Coalition’s Book of the Year (First-Time Author). Cameron has a BA in Latin and English and an MA in Education, all from Wake Forest; and a Masters in Divinity from Reformed Theological Seminary.
Hannah Dow is a Senior Account Executive at Big Communications. With both nonprofit and agency experience, Hannah manages strategic initiatives and client relations for several of Big’s accounts. Prior to her career in marketing, Hannah worked in both the travel industry and in the nonprofit sector. She earned her Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing Communications from the University of Mississippi. Hannah enjoys keeping up with the British royal family, rereading classical literature, and going on adventures with her precious 3 year old, Neal!
Mr. Harbert joined HMC in 2010 as an Associate in Private Equity rising to Senior Associate in 2013. In August 2014, Mr. Harbert transitioned into a management role within Fund Administration while still overseeing the remaining private equity investments. He was elected to the HMC Board of Directors in 2017. Prior to joining HMC, he was an Associate in the Transaction Services Strategy Group of PricewaterhouseCoopers, focusing on buy side commercial due diligence. He holds a Masters of Business Administration and a BS in Finance, both from Wake Forest University where he was a letter winner on the track team.
Mr. Harbert currently serves on the Athletic Advisory Council of the Deacon Club for Wake Forest University, the Advisory Board of Oakworth Capital Bank and the Board of Directors of the United Way of Central Alabama. He previously served on the Boards of CES Holding Company, Inc., Precision Alloys Corporation, STX Healthcare Management Services, Inc., Dent-A-Med, Inc., Onward Behavioral Health, Inc., Travis Body
Born in November of 1967 and raised in Birmingham, Alabama. Attended University of Alabama (B.S. in Accounting) and then Cumberland School of Law (J.D.) and ultimately University of Florida (LL.M in taxation). After practicing corporate law with a focus on mergers and acquisitions, he left the practice of law to work in the private equity industry, finally opening his own small firm in Birmingham, named Lazarus Capital. He is married to his wife, Trent, and they have three grown daughters. He and his family attend The Church of the Advent and have been involved in several areas of ministry there including small groups, stewardship campaign, finance committee and the Lenten Lunch hospitality committee among others. Interests include theology, exercise and his family.
Jody is the founder, owner and Vice President of RJ Mechanical. He graduated from Auburn and is married to Nancy. The Martins have three children, and in their free time, they really enjoy spending time with their kids and their new granddaughter, Mae. Jody and his family attend Brookwood Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama, where Jody has served as lead deacon and is a parent leader for the youth ministry. Jody is also a board member at WorldReach and True Vine Ministries, and a former board member of BigTime Ministries.
Carey Rome is the founder and CEO of Cypress Resources, Inc., a management consulting practice specializing in focusing and delivering strategic priorities. Carey’s foundation of financial and operational expertise began in Arthur Andersen LLP’s assurance and business advisory practice. While there, he advised mid-sized and Fortune 1000 companies as an auditor and business consultant. He continued to hone his entrepreneurial and leadership skills during stints as CFO and COO of two privately held companies before launching Alabama-based consulting firm Cypress Resources in 2005. Cypress Resources offers a nimble approach to traditional management consulting and has helped leaders and executives across the country frame and deliver corporate mandates. Its overall goal is to help leaders clearly articulate their visions, architect plans for success, and provide on-demand, ground-level expertise to get things done faster.
A native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Carey holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Louisiana Tech University. He is a member of the American Institute of CPAs, the Alabama Society of Certified Public Accountants, and the Birmingham Rotary Club. He also serves as a member of the Center for Executive Leadership, is on the board of trustees for Alabama Retail Comp, and is a past board member and president of the board for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Birmingham. Carey and his wife Jana have three beautiful daughters – Olivia, Hillary, and Kate. Carey is an avid learner and when he’s not listening to a podcast or book, he’s enjoying family time, preferably at the lake!
Rita joined Capital Strategies Group, Inc in 2019 as both Director of Marketing and Director of Corporate Accounts with direct responsibility for the execution of the relationship between CSG and institutional accounts. Prior to joining Capital Strategies Group, Rita had primary accountability for the coordination and collaboration between Merck and their largest Integrated Delivery Healthcare Network in a business development role. In her sixteen years at Merck, Rita served in several national and regional roles including a national business strategy team, national culture committee, and served as Chair of the Southeast Merck Women’s Network which provided mentoring opportunities for both men and women. In addition, Rita earned numerous regional and national awards, including the Merck Master’s Hall of Fame. Rita began her career as a critical care nurse, but since then has worked in several marketing and business development roles. She has always had a passion for building relationships in business, regardless of the industry. Rita holds a BSN degree as a graduate of the University of Alabama.
Rita and her husband Drew have four daughters and three grandchildren. She is an active member of her church and serves in leadership roles of several community organizations. Rita enjoys spending time with her family, running, and reading.
