There is an interesting proverb that aptly fits many students in our ministry; I would almost say it could be their theme verse. Proverbs 24.1 “Be not envious of evil men, nor desire to be with them.”
Whereas our students feel dissatisfied with the fleeting promises of life “under the sun,” Jesus has revealed to us in the Beatitudes the wisdom of God that is far “above the sun,“ in which we can know true blessedness.
There are a hundred things Jesus asks us to say no to when we follow him. But he’s done the hardest thing by dying in our place.
What if we really believed Jesus when he said, “It is finished”? What if we actually lived out of the reality that we have been justified, and we no longer have to justify ourselves? This is completely counter-cultural….
