Hope this Helps: The Problem of Youth Pastor Turnover

The rate of turnover in youth ministry is a real issue. Dean Inserra, Lead Pastor of City Church in Tallahassee, discusses the problem in his article In and Out: #YouthPastorProblems. He says, “It is no secret that churches struggle to keep a youth pastor around. Statistically, the average tenure of a youth pastor on staff at one local church is very short. I have observed around 18 months as a general time frame. This means that by the time a high school student graduates from his or her student ministry, there may have been as many as three youth pastors circulating through the ministry. Yikes.”
