Rooted 2014 Audio: Bethany Jenkins on Education and Vocation

One of the primary purposes of education is to prepare students vocationally. It is a training ground for work. Yet what are the mixed messages about vocation that high school sends? Does it matter, for example, that academic success is measured by differentiating labels like “honors” and “regulars”? Should we care that certain subjects like math are prioritized over other subjects like dance? In this workshop, we look at some of the assumptions about vocation that are embedded in the high school education system and how the gospel frees us from the consequences of those assumptions.
