Wanted: Deposits for the Rooted Illustrations Bank

Share:

Rooted is generating an illustrations bank to be utilized by youth pastors and youth volunteers, and we need your help! But don’t worry, there’s something in it for you too…

Purpose

When teaching a Bible passage it can be helpful to use examples from culture (including songs, movies, quotes, poems, narratives, graphics, etc.) to further elaborate on the main point of the lesson. However, it is not always easy to think of or find an illustration that helps convey what is hoping to be communicated. This illustrations bank is intended to serve youth pastors and youth volunteers in the preparation of their lessons as a place to help generate ideas. All illustrations in the bank will be organized by tags (see the list of tags on the last page).

How to Submit an Illustration

You can submit any illustrations you have through this link.

Conference Registration Giveaway!

We are giving away a free conference registration and a Rooted T-Shirt! Every illustration you submit will count as an additional entry into the giveaway. (If you’ve already registered for the conference, we will issue you a refund) You have until February 14th to enter submissions. The winner will be announced on February 17th

But wait …there’s more!

In addition to a free conference giveaway, anyone who submits 15+ approved illustrations will receive compensation of $2/accepted illustration.

Examples of what we’re looking for…

Illustration: Team Rescues Toddler from Well

Format: Photography

Description: These photographs capture the rescue team that saved a 1.5-year-old stuck in a well. Similar to this toddler, every human is reliant upon another for salvation. If this human team cared this much about one child, imagine what lengths the Father has gone and will go to to rescue you.

Illustration: Tom Brady: “There’s Gotta Be More than This…”

Format: Video, True Story

Description: NFL superstar and Super Bowl Champion Tom Brady seemingly has it all but still desires more. A real-life illustration of Ecclesiastes 3:11 (God putting eternity into the heart of man), the “God-Sized Void” Pascal wrote about, or Solomon’s dissatisfaction, even with all his wealth, accomplishments, and wives (Ecclesiastes 1:1-17).

Illustration: God’s Sovereignty Over The Past: Scott Erickson Art

Format: Image, Artwork

Description: Erickson provides a perspective on the past that is not instinctive to humans: the past is holy because God knows and reigns over it all. The human perspective, like that gleaned from a car mirror,  is always distorted and incomplete. Our hope lies in knowing God’s sovereignty covers our past.

Illustration: The Trinity & the Wave-Particle Duality of Light

Format: Scientific Object Lesson

Description: The wave-particle duality of light is a remarkable model of the Trinity. In engineering, there are equations that treat light as a wave and also equations which treat it as a particle. Light is both wave and particle; it is impossible to have one without the other.

Illustration: Kierkegaard’s The King and the Maiden”: Incarnation and Grace

Format: Short Story

Description: In 19th c. theologian Kierkegaard’s short story, a king forsakes his royal identity for the sake of a maiden. He enters the her (commoner’s) world (similar to Jesus becoming a human) in order to win her love (versus forcing obedience). Read alongside John 1 or Philippians 2.
